Your Ideal Client
What is an ideal client? An ideal client is a person who you would LOVE working with over and over. They are the epitome of the reason you started this business. You want to serve them as thoroughly as possible and give them all of your attention. An ideal client is a customer who makes your heart sing and shares your values. They are the client who doesn’t question pricing, turnaround time, production schedules or any potential mishaps.
Serving and ideal client feels like working your dream job. You want to have a clear picture of who that is so that you can attract more of them. This will also help you repel the people you DON’T want to work with. Imagine never having to justify your pricing, argue about timelines, referring back to your contract or repeating yourself again. Yeah, that’s the dream.
But don’t worry, by having a clear idea of who your ideal client is, you won’t stop attracting the Average Joes. You’ll just stop attracting the a**holes.
Make a Profile
I’m warning you now, this post will only be helpful if you do the homework. So, get to reading and strategizing. It’s SUPER important to have this nailed down. You can base so many things off of an ideal client profile, so you better have it written down somewhere. Im gifting you my ideal client manual for FREE at the end of this blog, so go snag it!
The things you need to know about your ideal client are:
- Demographics (location, age, occupation, education, etc.)
- Psychographics (WHY they are buying. I go in-depth about this in the guide)
- Pain points (what problems they face and how you solve them)
- Habits ( how they spend free time, what they value most, what content they consume, where they shop, etc.)
All of this will help you nail down how to talk to your audience. It determines your copy, your marketing, your business strategies and SO MUCH MORE!
My Ideal Client
Let’s dig into my own ideal client for Blush Boss co. When it comes to business, I have nothing to hide, and I know how helpful example are. Here’s the ideal Blush Boss co. client.
Tara is a 28 year old entrepreneur. She works as a Florist on the outskirts of Ottawa. Her passion is to bring an impeccable and inclusive client experience to every couple. She started her business after getting married herself and finding the Ottawa market lacking. She feels strongly about women’s rights and LGBTQ+ issues in the wedding industry.
Tara values time spent with the ones she loves most and spoiling her dogs. Her favourite thing to do is have some caffeine while watching Ru Paul’s Drag race, a blanket on her legs, and her laptop – to get her to-do list done. Tara’s style (when not lounging at home) is clean lines and classic pieces. Jewellery is an afterthought, so she accessorizes with bags and shoes instead. Business casual with a hint of bold colours and daring pieces make her stand out form the crowd.
While Tara loves to work, she knows how important time for self care is. The lines get blurred a little, but she does her best. She is described as ambitious, warm, and generous by friends. Not a woman to take anyone’s shit, she sets clear boundaries and stands up for what she believes in.
When Tara looks at her newest business strategy, she finds that she wants to have a more personal social media presence and a cohesive feel to her brand overall. But, she has no idea where to start. She stumbles onto my Instagram account, where she finds free resources and starts to follow my tips religiously. She saves up for a session and reaches out to me when she’s ready.
Now what?
Okay, so once you have your ideal client profile, what are you supposed to do with that information? Well, it’s time for the bigger homework – sorry, I know how much work this all is, trust me. But the payoff is SO WORTH IT.
It’s time to infuse this knowledge into everything in your business. Knowing what your ideal client needs, what their pain points are and how to talk to them is everything. It means you can adjust your copy on the website, make a more targeted social media presence, even make ads with a very detailed targeted audience.
